Adios and Thanks

It is time to close out this endeavor. I want to thank all our contributors and readers over the past almost four years. Together we brought new voices into the public dialogue, and reported facts the public has a right to know. We made some mistakes. We learned a lot about ourselves and our community.  I keep hearing we made a difference, our work was valued and we will be missed.

The greatest compliment we received was a criticism of sorts: “”Accurate, despite the source.” I really like that.

I am now completely engaged in other projects and activities and just don’t have the time to keep this going. The page will remain here as a resource and archive, but I won’t be adding to this body of work.

Best wishes to all of you. Jim Scarantino, Editor

Jim Scarantino

Jim Scarantino was the editor and founder of Port Townsend Free Press. He is happy in his new role as just a contributor writing on topics of concern to him. He spent the first 25 years of his professional life as a trial attorney, then launched an online investigative news website that broke several national stories. He is also the author of three crime novels. He resides in Jefferson County. See our “About” page for more information.

Comment Guidelines

We welcome contrary viewpoints. Diversity of opinion is sorely lacking in Port Townsend, in part because dissenting views are often suppressed, self-censored and made very unwelcome. Insults, taunts, bullying, all-caps shouting, intimidation, excessive or off-topic posting, and profanity do not qualify as serious discourse, as they deter, dilute, and drown it out. Comments of that nature will be removed and offenders will be blocked. Allegations of unethical, immoral, or criminal behavior need to be accompanied by supporting evidence, links, etc. Please limit comments to 500 words.

How sad I am that you will no longer be posting, However, I sure understand the desire to move on. I’d love to see someone take up the fight to get accurate information out there to the public. It’s a big and thankless job. Thank you for what you have started here.

Jim, I will really miss your insight into local issues. I’ve thankfully found a couple of new conservative platforms that deal with national issues, but you were the only local source. You’ll be greatly missed. PD

Thanks for everything, much appreciated and farewell, Jim. Godspeed.
I hope somebody is able to step in to document all the local malfeasance; they can’t just get away with it all, unknown and unopposed.

Thank you for being a voice of reason in a vast sea of irrational unwelcoming atmosphere of Jefferson County. You are a true hero!

I’m so sorry to see this. While all articles and comments weren’t directly relevant to me where I live, I’ve followed you at least half of those years and found your information very informative and insightful, along with that of your contributors. Best of wishes in your current endeavors. You will be missed.

I am devastated that you are leaving. You provided the only local source of news that rings true. Good luck in the future.
